Robins High Performance Centre

An award-winning ‘Category 1’ Football Training Centre in the North Somerset countryside

The Robins High Performance Centre (RHPC) is a 4000m2 state-of-the-art training facility in the North Somerset greenbelt.

The facility comprises changing areas, gym, administrative and catering areas, as well as rehabilitation amenities encompassing hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, and altitude training. The surrounding site delivers landscaping, training pitches, and a show pitch accommodating up to 500 spectators.

A major design challenge was minimising the RHPC’s impact on the greenbelt. By combining all functions under one roof, building’s overall impression was lessened. This created unique features, like tiered spectator seating akin to a traditional grandstand built into the facility.

The lower storey is ‘buried’ into the landscape by manipulating the ground plane to create the impression of a single storey, rectilinear ‘timber box’ sitting atop a small knoll. The symmetrical structure creates a striking appearance within the rolling countryside.

The facility houses the first team, academy, and executive offices under one roof for the first time in the club’s history. It is the first and only facility of this type in the southwest region and a key tenet of the long-term strategic and commercial goals of the Bristol City Football Club

Winner of the 2021 Northern Design Award, Commercial Build of the Year.
